Day 1: To the magnificent mount Bromo

You will be picked up in Surabaya. To earlier, the better. You will have more time to spend locally. It will take 3 to 4 hours to reach Cemara Lawang village.
This village is situated on the edge of the ancient crater in which mount Bromo arose. If you arrive before the evening falls, you can explore the Hindu area and pick your spot to see and sense the sunset.

Discovery ideas: if time is sufficient and if weather conditions are fine, you can visit the Madakaripura Waterfalls on your way to Cemara Lawang village.

After sunrise, you might need some time to warm up. Either in the sun, or by having a hot drink.
Then, your Jeep will be ready to head down into the ancient caldera. A caldera is a large cauldron-like depression that forms following the evacuation of a magma chamber or reservoir. Although sometimes described as a crater, a caldera is actually a type of sinkhole, as it is formed through subsidence and collapse rather than an explosion or impact (source: Wikipedia). If you wish your Jeep to stop to hike in the cladera, just ask.
Otherwise your Jeep will park near Luhur Poten temple, a 45 minutes walk one way from the top of the active volcano Bromo. Take your time on this short but impressive hike. Would you like to do more, see more, take more time? Everything is possible, just let me know.
Whenever you are ready, your Jeep will drive back to the hotel to have breakfast. You can also take a refreshing shower before checking out. Then continue the tour to your next destination.

Discovery ideas: 1. as mount Pananjakan is the most famous viewpoint, it is also the most visited. If you travel during the weekend or a public holiday, you might prefer to see the sunrise from another viewpoint (or not at all). Please ask... 2. as Bondowoso is a rural city just before Ijen Plateau, one doesn't fully grasp the environment of the most acidic lake on earth, that is Ijen crater lake. If you wish to stay on the plateau, you can find 2 homestays, that is Catimor Homestay & Arabica Homestay. Please read the reviews. If you arrive at the plateau before it is dark, you have time to explore the coffee plantation (that is the plateau), local life, the coffee factory (if season), a waterfall and a sulphuric hot spring. 3. Day 3: Ijen: the most acidic lake on earth & the biggest blue fire area in the world

At 4 am you will drive in approximately 2 hours to Paltuding.
In Paltuding your hike to Ijen crater lake starts. Although it is a 3 km hike only, it takes about 1.5 hours to reach the top of this active volcano. Your reward will be an amazing colorful scene over the green-blueish lake and the contrasting brownish walls of the crater.
On route to the top you will meet sulphur miners wheeling loads of sulphur down the slopes. The miners hike several times a day - early morning - into the crater to collect solidified sulphur at the end of ceramic pipes. Then the sulphur is packed in bamboo baskets. The miners carry heavy baskets up to 100 kg out of the crater. The sulphur then is loaded on trolleys to be wheeled down hill to the sulphur weighing station. Just behind the parking lot.
When you have explored to the fullest, walk back to your car. Don't forget to visit the sulphur weighing station.

Sukamade turtle beach at Meru Betiri National Park

You will drive across East Java's extensive plantations and the mountain range of Meru Betiri National Park. You will also pass several beaches where you can stop. Sukamade will be reached late afternoon. Sukamade is a wild 3 kilometer sand strip on the Indian Ocean where 5 species of turtles come ashore to lay their eggs.
Before it gets dark, you can explore Sukamade village and visit brown sugar home industry. In the evening you will be guided by a ranger to find the turtles that come ashore to lay their eggs. Normally female sea turtles start to land at 19:30 and return to the sea at midnight. It can't be guaranteed that turtles will come ashore, but overall it is a 95% chance.

If you wish to see it, you will have to depart around midnight as it can only be seen when it is dark. Beware that descending into the crater of an active volcano with the most acidic lake on earth isn't without risks. When it is raining, it is too dangerous. 2. visit the sulphur factory in Licin village. Sulphur from Ijen is purifief and packed in this very small 'factory'
